OPERATIONAL PLAN ON FOOD SAFETY RESEARCH IN BASQUE COUNTRY
The Directorate of Innovation and Food Industry of the Department of Environment, Territorial Planning, Agriculture and Fisheries of the Basque Government has promoted and developed the Operational Plan on Food Safety Research in Basque Country, together with the technical support of Elika and collaboration of the main basque Food Safety research centres (AZTI-Tecnalia, NEIKER-Tecnalia, EHU/UPV and LEARTIKER) and entities working in Food Safety field (Public Health Directorate of the Basque Government, BIOEF and IHOBE).
The objectives of the above mentioned Plan is reinforce the research in Food Safety, generate and transfer knowledge and optimize the efficiency and resources aimed to reach the maximum degree of Food Safety in Basque Country.

RESEARCH PROJECTS
Under SAFEFOODERA Eranet, two transnational calls had been launched.
In the first call (2007-2008), some basque researchers participated in two different projects and these results were presented in a Conference in Zamudio on november 2008.
In the second call (2009-2011), basque researchers are taking part in three different projects and these results will be presented at the end of the investigations
Last June, 7 in Copenhaguen, SAFEFOODERA consortia had a meeting to discuss the prioritised research needs in chemical and biological risks transnationally to be presented in a next third call 2012. More information will be uploaded in SAFEFOODERA homepage

Elika, on behalf of the Departament of Environment, Territorial Plannig, Agriculture and Fisheries of the Basque Government, member of SAFEFOODERA, has attended the Global Conference held last 6-7, June in Copenhaguen, where the final results of the 10 projects of the 2nd call were presented, with the participation of the University of Basque Country and Azti-Tecnalia in 3 of them.
