Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
ELIKA was set up as a foundation to provide a public service, but our work does not only involve complying with our corporate functions, which are to improve food safety in the Basque Autonomous Community. It also means that we must demand more from ourselves in the performance of our social responsibilities and attempt to generate added value from the resources Basque society invests in us. To do this, we must comply with a series of ethical, social and environmentally responsible behaviours.
We wish to convey to all of our Interest Groups our most decided determination to make ELIKA an excellent and more competitive entity, with a greater sense of solidarity and commitment to our social environment and to make it more accessible to everyone.
The main pillars of our corporate strategy are as follows:
We strive to attain excellence in management in accordance with the EFQM model (in January 2010, we obtained the EFQM diploma for our commitment to excellence in management, awarded by Euskalit).
As a Basque public sector foundation, we are committed to transparency in the use of our resources and therefore, through this website, we wish to provide evidence of this.
This foundation provides free services, but even so, our main strategy is to provide our clients with added value services. For this reason, we must identify who are clients are and determine their needs and expectations. We establish fluid communications with our clients and assess their level of satisfaction. Likewise, the information we handle is highly confidential and we apply the data protection act strictly.
We place special emphasis on the quality of our services. We seek out the best information, train our staff and take great care in defining what it is, precisely, that our clients expect of us. Likewise, we collaborate with the best scientific experts in each field to ensure that our clients have the best scientific-technical knowledge available and the best advice in order to comply with applicable safety requirements.
Everyone at ELIKA works actively to share the know-how and information available to us. In this way, through our website and specialist magazines, we provide information on all the issues that concern us and that we consider to be of relevance in our efforts to improve food safety in the Basque Autonomous Community. In this sense, we pass this information on to consumers and try to identify those issues that are of most concern to them and to deal with these matters in an extensive and more accessible manner.
In our efforts to improve overall food safety levels in the Basque Autonomous Community, we are all aware of the importance of fostering a spirit of collaboration and of sharing and learning from the most advanced management practices.
We are conscious of the fact that our suppliers are an extension of our organisation, and therefore we work with them in the dissemination of our values and responsible environmental behaviour.
In order to foster the use of the Basque language (one of the official languages in our Community) in the business world and specifically in the realm of food safety, all our information and notifications are also published in Basque.
ELIKA is firmly committed to preventing contamination, conserving the environment and promoting measures to increase energy-saving and efficiency.
As a public foundation, our our governing body, the Board of Trustees, has approved this Corporate Social Responsibility Policy and in turn, its members, the trustees, follow a code of ethics that ensures their involvement, objectivity and commitment to the Responsible Administration of ELIKA.
Likewise, ELIKA’s personnel policy has been developed in accordance with the values set out in its CSR code. The foundation seeks to improve work satisfaction, reconcile the demands of the workplace with family life and the environment in which we develop our activities.
Corporate Social Responsibility is a complex concept which encompasses the Foundation’s commitments to and relations with its different interest groups, society at large and the environment in which ELIKA carries out its activities. Aware of this responsibility, through this website, we will try to describe in a detailed and transparent manner how we organise ourselves and what projects that we are currently engaged in. We will also explain how we will spend the budget assigned to us, what type of relationship exists between ELIKA and its main interest groups, how we try to look after the environment and what our main indicators are in this sense.
